Have You Died?

In my previous post, I spoke about you being the one God changes as you pray about changes needed in your relationships/marriage (Change Who?). Change is different for everyone, depending on the current condition of one’s heart.

Some of us tend to treat God like a magic genie, only to come out and grant wishes at our convenience and then put Him back in the lamp when we are done. Until next time!!

You know, God will become silent and start allowing circumstances to linger after a while! At some point, everyone will be faced with having to make a choice. What that looks like for each person is different! But you only have two choices, and you will know without a doubt when that time comes.

Others have come to understand that the battle is something you cannot see and that it’s working through the vessel of those you mostly interact with on a day-to-day basis (Ephesians 6:12). Especially in marriages and intimate partner relationships! When you understand your battle is spiritual, you learn to separate the person from the spirit and start fighting differently. It does not excuse the other person, nor does it mean their behavior will change, but yours will. The other person is God’s business! God is working on a change in you, which requires you to die to your old self to make room for the new one.

It is just human nature to want to control others, come up with different tactics, and think that we will get a better outcome. But the truth is, without the spirit of Christ, you will get the same outcome, if not worse than before. You cannot fight spiritual battles with tangible weapons! You will lose every time!! When you get tired of walking around in circles in the wilderness with little to no change, hopefully, you will learn to let go and literally let God!

Your journey to a new you, the circumstances involved, and the length of time it takes are different, but you must make a choice. God's spirit will not force you, but He would love to lead you on that journey. It is His desire that you ask Him to take over the wheel of your heart.

Who or what is controlling your heart right now? Do you have inner peace, or does that peace fluctuate depending on who or what has control over it?

God can change any situation and promises to do more than we can possibly imagine (Ephesians 3:20), but He needs us to completely surrender, showing faith, trust, and belief in Him. Yep, that’s right!! During the darkest time in your life, cry out and have faith, and He will answer (2 Corinthians 5:7). You may not hear or see Him in the way you imagine, but I can guarantee you will know He’s there.

God has a wonderful purpose for you! Dying to self is hard and painful, but it is a necessary prerequisite leading to that greater purpose for your life.
