Is It Selfish

Have you ever been told you made a selfish decision when you surrendered your life to Christ? Whether it's a friend, family or spouse, have you ever been told you should have consulted them before you made such an important, life altering decision because it impacted their lives in a negative way?
Giving your life to Christ is not only an important decision, it's a personal one. It's not like making a decision about a new job, new home or whatever new endeavor you are considering to explore. We are talking about God revealing Himself to you in a way specifically designed for you during the darkest time of your life. We are talking about God leading you from darkness, into light with an invitation for eternal life. A personal relationship with HIM!
We all go through times of depression and darkness for one reason or another. Sometimes it's at the hands of those who claim to love us and that's when Satan really dig it's claws into us while trying to drag us deeper into a place of no return. When you are the one going through it, your family, friends, or significant other don't understand! If they are the ones contributing to it, their only concern is how your change is an inconvenience to their control over you.
But giving your life to Christ is not the real issue because there are a lot of carnal Christians that are accepted by the world. It's when giving your life to Christ becomes life altering. You no longer desire to listen to, watch or engage in the same activities you use to because it not only contradict what Christ stands for, it contradicts with the transformation taking place inside of you. You just feel different!!
Your change becomes a problem with non believers and for believers who are still very much of the world because God's ways and the worlds is like water and oil. They don't mix and if your heart and mind has genuinely changed for Christ, then change in you and your desires are inevitable!
Does it mean you don't fall short and are better than others. NO! But it may seem that way in the eyes of others! They will resent you for it, accusing you of being holier than thou and may even walk out of your life because of it. You will be indirectly given an ultimatum to change back or they will no longer grace you with their presence. Pretty much your being told to make them your god or else!!
The bottom line is no one knows what you are going through or what you felt when God intervened in the midst of the darkest time of your life. So absolutely no one get's to decide or determine your relationship with Him. People place themselves above the one true God, and some people can't handle not having that control over your identity. To keep peace, we give control to them not realizing, that their kind of "peace" is only temporary and conditional. (and it most certainly isn't love) But God gives you a love and peace unlike anything you ever experienced. You don't consult with humans and consider giving that up for their convenience. If people want to walk out of your life as a result, let them! I make it sound simple, but it's not and I am speaking from experience! We can't be short sighted relying on human tainted love for inner peace and salvation.
So is it Selfish?
To love yourself and be happy.
To be free of depression.
To desire an identity outside of others.
To be free of co-dependency.
To have self-respect, integrity, and morals.
To gain confidence and courage.
To take care of your emotional wellbeing.
To guard your heart.
To be free of controlling and dominating personalities.
To learn how to love, have patience and how to forgive others.
Is it selfish to choose Christ?
